Comprehensive DBT

Comprehensive DBT is a form of Dialectical Behavioral Therapy that is adherent to the research-based method of providing the treatment. It’s also sometimes referred to as full-model DBT or adherent DBT.

The components of Comprehensive DBT include the following:

  1. Individual DBT Therapy

  2. DBT Skills Training Group - this is where you will learn skills that we will use in our work together.

  3. Phone Coaching - this means I am available to clients engaged in comprehensive DBT outside of treatment hours for support in using the new skills they are learning in their environments.

  4. Therapist Consultation Team - I meet regularly with a team of other DBT therapists to discuss the work I am doing with my clients. This team gives me the feedback and support I need to effectively provide this complex treatment.

DBT Skills Groups

I do not provide DBT skills groups through my practice at this time. If you are not already connected to either an adult DBT skills group or an adolescent multi-family DBT skills group, I will provide you with referrals to the appropriate skills group.

For adolescents and their families: A commitment to completion of the skills modules sequence once (1x) is required to participate in comprehensive DBT.

For adults: A commitment to completion of the skills modules sequence twice (2x) is required to participate in comprehensive DBT.

DBT skills groups are different from typical group therapy sessions. They function more like a class at school. Group members learn skills together and are assigned homework that they are expected to complete each week.

The skills areas that are taught in DBT skills include the following:

  • Mindfulness

  • Interpersonal Effectiveness

  • Emotion Regulation

  • Distress Tolerance

Consultation Services for Clinicians

If you are a clinician in search of consultation around working with folks in the LGBTQIA+ community, I am happy to provide you with both my personal and professional consultation for improving your practice and to become a better ally to your clients and community.

I have many years of experience as a non-binary and queer client and clinician, and can support you in learning how to provide gender affirming care, using culturally sensitive language, and to improve inclusivity in your clinical paperwork.
